Frequently asked questions.

When do you open for reservation requests?

Reservation requests open on the 15th of each month.

How do reservations work?

Reservation requests are made on our website (preferred), via email, text or phone.

Reservations are based on a lottery system. Requests can be made on the 15th - 17th, and then we’ll do a drawing for reservations.

You will be sent a confirmation email or text message indicating that you have a reservation or have been placed on the waiting list

As a courtesy, guests will be sent a reminder email or text message about 48 hours before the dinner.

What happens if I need to update or cancel my reservation?

Please notify moscowwelcometable@gmail.com or 208-298-9020 as soon as possible so we can invite someone on the waiting list.

It is important to notify us to allow for the most efficient and full seating of our tables.

Please note that if you cancel after Sunday evening, we won’t have time to contact people on the waiting list, and your seats will possibly be unfilled.

What does it mean to be on the waitlist?

Being told you are on the waitlist means you do not currently have a reservation for the upcoming meal.

You will be notified, in order of reservation, if/when space becomes available.

Those on the wait list are encouraged to come to the dinner as walk-in guests and will be seated if there is space available.

How much does the dinner cost?

The dinner is free! Donations are always welcome but never expected.

Who can come to the dinner?

Anyone!

When and where is the Moscow Welcome Table?

MWT happens on the 4th Monday of each month* at 6:00 pm within the 1912 Center located in Moscow. We do not hold a dinner in December. In 2024, we will not hold a dinner in May because it conflicts with the Memorial Day holiday.

How many people can eat at the Welcome Table each month?

There are 14 tables, each seating eight guests, for a total of 112 diners.

Can I sit with all my friends?

The Welcome Table is all about creating connections among community members. To make opportunities for connecting with other guests, we seat larger groups (5-8 people) at two tables. Families with children can be seated together.

Are the chefs paid?

No, all chefs volunteer their time. MWT pays for all the ingredients.

Do the chefs do all the prep-work, cooking, and plating?

The chefs lead the way planning, prepping, and cooking the dinner, but the kitchen is usually full of volunteers the day before and the day of the dinner. It is common to find 6-8 volunteers in the kitchen helping at any one time!

How do I volunteer?

Email moscowwelcometable@gmail.com or call 208-298-9020 to get on the volunteer list. We will send the signup link for volunteer positions 10 days to a week before the dinner.

Is there an age requirement for volunteers?

We prefer our volunteer servers to be at least 12 years old. Volunteers working in the kitchen need to be at least 14 years old.

Do volunteers get to eat?

Yes, once the guests are leaving all the volunteers are then welcome to enjoy the meal they worked so hard to provide.

What if I have an allergy?

We do our best to accommodate our guests, but it’s not always possible to plan dinners without specific allergens. If you have a concern, please email moscowwelcometable@gmail.com or call 208-298-9020 so we can talk with our chef about what allergens might be present in the meal. At the dinner, your server can answer questions about ingredients.

Why doesn’t anyone answer the phone when I call?

We use Google Voice to allow our guests to leave a voicemail and we can call them back when one of our volunteers becomes available.

Where does the money come from to support the MWT?

Our meals are currently completely based on donations and grants.

Is the Moscow Welcome Table a non-profit organization?

The Welcome Table is a program of the 1912 Center, which is run by the non-profit Heart of the Arts, Inc. All donations to MWT are tax-deductible.

How do I donate to the Welcome Table?

Thank you for asking! We’re grateful for every donation, small or large. You can donate with cash, check, or online donation. If writing a check, make it out to Heart of the Arts, Inc. and be sure to write “Moscow Welcome Table” in the memo line on the check. Checks can be mailed to the 1912 Center at 412 East Third Street, Moscow, ID, 83843.

For online donations, go to the donations page at 1912Center.org. Under “Is this gift in honor or memory of someone?” select “in honor of” and write Moscow Welcome Table as the name of the person being honored. (There’s no need to fill in the rest of the “Honorary Information.)

Who runs the MWT?

There is a core group of four volunteers that plan, coordinate, and facilitate the dinner each month. At the dinners, you can find us in the kitchen prepping and plating the dinner, and in the dining room hosting and serving, too!
